A Loving-Kindness Meditation for Keeping Your Heart Open
A gentle practice for softening resentment, tending to your heart, and staying open without abandoning yourself.
This loving-kindness meditation is a practice for the moments when love feels complicated.
It is for working with resentment, anger, grief, forgiveness, or difficult relationships — not by forcing yourself to forgive or abandon your boundaries, but by gently tending to your own heart.
In this practice, we begin with loving-kindness toward ourselves and slowly extend that goodwill outward, remembering that love does not require self-abandonment.
You can stay open and still stay rooted in yourself.

This landed at exactly the right moment. The distinction you make — staying open without abandoning yourself — is one I've been sitting with for years. I used to think forgiveness meant making peace with what happened. What I eventually discovered is that it means making peace with myself first. The resentment I was carrying was hurting me far more than the person I was holding it toward.
Thank you for this.
