Let's Come Together - For Ourselves and the World
A space to ground ourselves, connect, and invoke peace for all
Namaste My Friends,
This week’s post is a bit different from my usual newsletters. I created this community to be a space where we can speak our truth and feel our feelings—while supporting each other through the tough stuff.
So this week, I am going to be very honest: I am struggling with the heartbreaking news coming out of Minneapolis and, more broadly, with the state of our country.
If I am feeling deeply saddened, infuriated, scared, and disheartened, I imagine some of you are too.
Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse and U.S. citizen, was yet another victim of ICE. My heart aches for him, his family, and for what this ongoing situation says about the state of our country.
It’s hard to know how to process these overwhelming feelings. Part of me wants to hide from the truth, turn off the news, pull the covers over my head, and binge-watch rom-coms just to escape. Another part wants to rage, scream, and release the anger that feels like a pressure cooker ready to explode. And yet another part feels frozen—disillusioned, overwhelmed, and unsure how to respond.
In each of these states, my natural urge is to pull back from my spiritual practices. I know I am not alone in this.
While it might seem that these practices would feel more essential in times like these, I often feel the low vibrational frequency of negative emotions pulling me down, making everything seem meaningless. And when the world is on fire, I wonder: shouldn’t I be doing something more?
After a night of indulging in all of these emotions, I awoke this morning with a choice: sink further into despair, negativity, and anger—or return to center, to equanimity, and act from there.
While I am educating myself on concrete ways to support the resistance, I am also choosing to practice what I know is Truth—that peace must start from within, and that energy travels outward.
This morning, I meditated not just for myself but for the world. I chose the mantra Om Shanti, which roughly translates to “may there be peace” or “peace in all realms,” and I set the intention for that peace to travel outward.
Om Shanti is an invocation, a blessing, a call to bring peace into being. And this invocation becomes stronger when practiced together.
So, if you are feeling as I am—struggling with grief, anger, fear, or helplessness, and want to serve the world in a constructive way—let’s come together in community meditation in service to the world.
Comment below, or reply to this email if you’re interested. A simple “yes” or 👍 will do. If there is enough interest, I will go live here and invite you to join.
Let’s begin with internal peace, invoke peace for all, and then choose how we respond to the injustices we see around us.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
p.s. I almost forgot. This week on the podcast I am joined by Shannah Game, a certified financial planner, trauma-of-money expert, and author of Unraveling Your Relationship with Money, for a compassionate and deeply human conversation about money, meaning, and healing in midlife. If you struggle with your relationship with money - this one’s for you.
